On Monday the 12th of September we will be taking a Whole School photo from 10am (Weather Permitting) on the school field. This takes a massive amount of organisation and it is possible that break time will be extended slightly if the photo taking overruns. Students should attend in their full uniform looking very smart. |

Welcome back, as Head of Achievement for both Years 8 and Year 9 I have been pleased to see students returning to school with lots of enthusiasm towards their lessons and academic studies. It is important that this hard work continues as we move through the school year. Our expectations are high across classwork, homestudy and behaviour for all students.
We have made it easier for you to support your child’s learning at home by adding learning journeys and unit summaries to the start of all their class books. Unit summaries have a list of key words and topics that will be covered currently, there will be a new one added into books at the start of a new unit. Learning journeys allow you to see what units will be covered across the course of the year and the order in which this will happen.
Homestudy is important as it links lesson learning to future learning, the expectations are that this is done to the best ability that our students can, with this in mind we run a homestudy club in IT3 every lunchtime and afterschool in our IT rooms Monday to Thursday. It would be pleasing to see students making use of this opportunity.
Talking of opportunities, we have lots of exciting school clubs being launched next week, make sure you are looking out for when you can sign up for these. I am looking forward to seeing lots of the year group getting involved in the wider school community and joining in with a variety of school clubs this year.
During assembly on Monday I discussed expectations of the year ahead with both Year 8 & 9. There were three key words that were used when I did this. These words were well behaved, polite and smart.
Our expectations of a well-behaved student are their behaviour in lessons and around school is excellent, they do not disrupt the learning of others and they are focused and work hard in both lessons and homestudies.
Our expectation of polite is that everyone is nice to everyone within the school environment, we use the words please and thank you and we do not get involved in situations that are unkind towards others.
Smartness does not cost a thing; it is an easy thing to tuck in shirts and have our top buttons done up. Being dressed and ready to learn is important. Smartness does not stop there, we will also leave our break and lunchtime areas smart and litter free, we will keep our work smart and well presented.
I do hope that you will use these words at home when discussing all aspects of school life with your child.
We have two main focuses over the next two weeks, organisation, making sure you have everything you need for each day and our commendation focus which is demonstrating initiative. It would be pleasing to see lots of organised students who are getting lots of commendations for demonstrating initiative over the next two weeks.
Please do get in touch if there is anything you wish to discuss.
I look forward to a fantastic year ahead with lots of successes to celebrate.

It is wonderful to be welcoming our Year 10 and Year 11 students to the new academic year. As Head of Achievement, I am delighted to see the positive energy and enthusiasm our students are demonstrating in readiness for their GCSE journey. My colleagues have also been quick to relay a wealth of positive comments with regards our KS4 students, and this purposeful start to the year is reflected in the amount of commendations which have already been awarded to both year groups.
Along with the introduction of Learning Journeys across the whole of our school, students have been informed of significant key dates and events with which they will be involved in over the coming year. We welcome you to attend our Information Evenings for both year groups, which we hope you will find useful and informative. Details of these will be released shortly.
Highcliffe life is rooted in the values and behaviours we believe to be important to the success of your child’s learning journey. We, therefore, thank you in advance in supporting our students in them being dressed appropriately, equipped correctly and punctual to all lessons
At Highcliffe School we recognise that many of our students’ achievements extend beyond the classroom. As such, we would like to celebrate the following students’ recent accomplishments:
Alex, whose outstanding football ability has awarded him a place with Southampton FC Academy;
Maddie for admirably completing the Three Peaks Challenge and raising over £4,000 for charity;
Emily and Sophie, whose incredibly successful work experience placement resulted in the company selecting their Catapult Challenge idea to take along to the Bournemouth Airshow, in order to promote STEM activities, and, hopefully, the 'Engineers' of the future.
Finally, I would like to wish all of our Year 10 and Year 11 students a happy and successful school year.

Clubs and Activities |
|
With the school year being far less impacted by Covid we are anticipating running an increased ‘Club and Extra-Curricular’ programme than we have been able to do so over the past few years.
We are presently working to finalise arrangements for these and will be communicating how to browse the clubs and book a place via Wisepay.
Please note: Some clubs will be limited spaces. If a club is cancelled we will notify parents/students as soon as possible. |
